LOVE in action creating food security for ALL!

COMING IN DECEMBER BASKETS OF JOY HOLIDAY GIFT PROGRAM

For the last 20 years we have sponsored families in a very non-traditional way. We allow the parents to "shop" for their children on our toy distribution day. We collect toys with the help of you - our great community. We collect all year round with anticipation of the event. This year we knew the demand would be high, but we never thought we would have our registration link full in just 7 hours from it going live this morning. We accepted over 200 children above our limit, and now are scrambling to fill those extra baskets.

About Us
We are a FOOD WITH DIGNITY organization,
where those in need can participate in their own food relief efforts.
A goal with Ahava Gleaners is to help people help themselves to meet the needs of their households by the following:

To provide food, aid and other assistance to the low-income, disabled, children and elderly in the Tualatin Valley, Oregon area.
Ahava Gleaners is a supplemental food program serving the greater Tri- County area and beyond, made up of low-income members of the community working together in collaboration to promote food security for all. Ahava Gleaners formerly the Tualatin Valley Gleaners incorporated in 2005 and began their mission of providing a stable way for families in need to access quality nutritious foods on a weekly basis.
Clients gain more than just food by attending the gleaners each week. We focus on dignity and compassion for others in need. By offering a variety of information and services, we are hoping to provide the members with stability and tools for self-sufficiency in their lives.

Our Programs

Baskets of Joy
Since 2005 the Baskets of Joy program has been helping up to 500 families each Christmas season with a traditional holiday meal and toys/gifts for children 17 years and younger. The Baskets of Joy program also distributes gifts to our home-bound seniors that are in need of friendship and care.
The Baskets of Joy program could not operate without the wonderful community support.
In years past we have received toys from the local TV stations of KGW, and KPTV and the wonderful Marines program Toys for Tots.
We have already reached our maximum children for 2025, however, we always keep a waitlist active and open. Some families sign up thinking they might be in need and find that another organization helped them, or they are just not needing the support as they thought. So, as those families let us know we take a family off the wait list. And we invite the waitlist at the end of our toy distribution to shop for whatever we have available. We do not put a limit on how many we accept on the waitlist - but it tis important to know it is not a guarantee of assistance.

WISHES CAN COME TRUE
WANT TO LEARN MORE OF HOW TO GET INVOLOVED WITH OUR GREAT COMMUNITY THAT IS CHANGING LIVES?

You can help with our wish list of items and donations to help us change emergency need for food, to food security. We believe that education is the key to food security. At Ahava Gleaners we believe in teaching self sufficient gardening , including the many different harvesting techniques, and food preservation. This is the truly living the parable of teaching a man to fish, feeds him for a lifetime, but just giving him a fish only feeds him for a day.
We have been blessed with our partnership with ALL SAINTS church in Hillsboro, where they are working on certifying their kitchen , giving us a place to teach food preservation with our own Master Food Preserver.
*To help with this wish to come true - we are looking for donations of Canning Equipment, and Food Dehydrators, a Food Freeze Dryer.
*We are in need of tree and field harvesting equipment. New picker poles, new buckets, ladders, tarps, scales, gloves etc.

*Gardening supplies, and plant starts during the planting season.

*Foraging supplies, as well as an experience and educated guide in food foraging in the Pacific Northwest.

*Toys and gifts for the holidays
*Non-perishable and PERISHABLE foods for all year round
*HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES - we are always in need of personal as well as household supplies, such as feminine products, shampoos, toilet paper, laundry soups etc.
